Entire Baking World United At IBIE
October 8, 2016 - October 11, 2016
The International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) provides all segments of the grain-based food industry a platform for showcasing the latest baking technology and exploring complete equipment, ingredient, supply and business solutions. Convening in Las Vegas in 2016, the 700,000 sq. ft. event brought together the entire professional baking community in record numbers, connecting 800 exhibiting companies with more than 20,000 baking professionals from all over the globe for four days of interaction.
The largest and most comprehensive event in the Western Hemisphere for the grain-based food industry also featured an expanded Innovation Showcase, called the Baking Expo™, featuring 56 participants representing a range of categories from ingredients and equipment to packaging and services. The Baking Expo™, sponsored by the American Bakers Association (ABA) and the Baking Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds (BEMA), is the launching pad for what’s new in baking. At the event, the industry also recognized its 2016 Becoming Environmentally Sustainable Together (B.E.S.T.) in Baking award winners. Introduced in 2010, the B.E.S.T. in Baking program recognizes exhibitors that supply equipment, packaging, ingredients, products and/or services that foster energy and water conservation, decrease landfill waste and promote overall healthy living and reduction in environmental impact. This year, the program was expanded to include categories for retail and wholesale bakers, as well as products related to ingredients, packaging and logistics, in addition to equipment. Among the winners were Focus Works’ SQF-Sentinel paperless food safety software that not only reduces food safety labor and provided real-time verification, but also has reduced the volume of paper and toner for medium to large food plants by $3,000 to $5,000 per year.
Six teams of the country’s top professional cake decorators also challenged each other to a contest of imagination, artistry and skill during one of baking’s most prestigious competitions, the RBA’s 15th Annual Pillsbury Bakers’ Plus Creative Decorating Competition.
