Extract from the presidential address to the open session of the 80th Annual General Meeting of the South African Chamber of Baking
The 80th Annual General Meeting of the South African Chamber of Baking was held on the 14th March 2018. Colin Hardy, president of the SACB welcomed the three guest speakers: Dr John Purchase, Gareth Gregory (Africa Head Strategic Energy and Client Delivery of Energy Security Services) and Justice Malala.
In the closed session of the meeting the following was discussed:
- Domestic issues
- Legislative and constitutional matters
- Appointment of auditors
- Approval of financial statements
- Election of office bearers of the Chamber
- Appointment of representatives for various external organisations.
During the closed session the Chairpersons of the Chamber’s two standing committees, namely the Technical Committee and the Training Committee, delivered their reports and stakeholders were assured that the Chamber, through its appointed committees will apply their focus and energy on relevant and important challenges to the baking industry as well as to the entire wheat-to-bread value chain.
South Africa departed 2017 with a lot more hope and entered 2018 with the words “New Dawn”. This year the Chamber has an opportunity to make change happen and new leadership in the country may provide the wheat value chain with new opportunities.
