Serco Keeping It Fresh with Insulated Panel Van
Frut a Cape Town-based company dealing in fruit products, juices, dry ingredients and frozen products – has had the interior of a panel van which they use for deliveries fully insulated by Serco.
Nic van Nes of the family-owned company said he was pleased with the end result and as the company expanded they would consider getting more of their vehicles insulated through Serco.
Van Nes said the idea was to improve maintenance of the cold chain in the van and thus increase payload for short distance deliveries as an alternative to using the company’s 1-ton truck, and through that achieve savings in fuel costs and, in the long term, also on the outlay on vehicle replacement.
The new insulation would ensure that frozen goods could be transported at temperatures below 0 degrees C. Frut, which has its headquarters in Somerset West with a branch in Durbanville, sells high quality ingredients for smoothies and shakes as well as frozen fruit, protein powders, seeds, nuts, jam concentrates and freshly squeezed juices, among other goods.
Frut supply the public from their two stores and also offer home deliveries through online sales – a side of their business the van Nes family is keen to expand.
