Thandie’s cakes and bakes

After finding a mentor at her first bakery job and gaining 13 years of baking experience, Thandiswa Ngenju started her own small baking business from home, which is growing into a successful venture providing delicious cakes – including wedding cakes and birthday cakes – to a growing number of loyal customers in Grahamstown.

A recent article in the Grocotts Mail shared the uplifting story of Thandi’s journey to her own bakery business. Born and bred in Grahamstown, Thandi, a mother of three children, enjoyed cooking from a young age. After school she went to Johannesburg, where her uncle helped her to find a job in a bakery. Here a lady mentored Thandi and taught her the basics of baking.

After nine years and plenty of experience, Thandi returned to Grahamstown and spend another four years in the bakery section of a local business. When she started her own small business from home, many of her local customers continued to support her and recommended her to others.
